The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) is considering a new regulation that will strengthen and clarify the civil rights protections afforded to religious organizations that contract with the federal government. According to a DOL press release, "the proposed rule would clarify that religious organizations may make employment decisions consistent with their sincerely held religious tenets and beliefs without fear of sanction by the federal government."

“Today’s proposed rule helps to ensure the civil rights of religious employers are protected,” Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor Patrick Pizzella remarked. “As people of faith with deeply held religious beliefs are making decisions on whether to participate in federal contracting, they deserve clear understanding of their obligations and protections under the law.”

I support the proposed new rule protecting religious liberty

Dear Secretary Pizzella, Director Craig, et al.:

I write today in support of the new proposed regulation clarifying the civil rights protections afforded to religious organizations that contract with the federal government [RIN 1250-AA09]. As the proposal itself clearly lays out, the new rule is based thoroughly in the Constitution, as well as statutory law, Supreme Court and Circuit level judicial decisions, and executive orders, particularly those of similar spirit signed by President Trump.

I applaud the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs for this effort to safeguard and bolster the religious liberty rights of faith-based employers who contract with the Federal government. These individuals must be allowed to conduct their affairs in keeping with their deeply-held beliefs and the dictates of conscience without fear of reprisal or sanction by the Federal government: this is the very heart of the meaning of the first amendment!

I hope you will see that this proposed rule be implemented swiftly after the comment period is closed. Thank you once again for your efforts and for your kind consideration of my support.
