Congress is on the verge of making a major concession that could prove to be disastrous to the economy.

Please sign our petition and call your member of Congress now: urge them to oppose President Obama’s fast track trade bill that expands the Trade Adjustment Assistance welfare program.

Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) grants fast track negotiating authority for trade agreements to the President of United States. With this authority, POTUS can negotiate international agreements that Congress can approve or disapprove but cannot amend or filibuster.

Conservatives support strong free trade agreements because it is seen as an opportunity to open markets around the world for U.S. products and services.

Obama’s TPA has a disastrous twist -- it is tied to a massive spending increase for a welfare program called Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA). This is seen as a move by Democrats to revise welfare reform.

Last week, Mitch McConnell rose to be Obama’s point man in the Senate as the Senate passed Obama’s trade bill (or welfare reform).

We must pressure the House not to make the same mistake.

Former Senator Jim DeMint, an active voice for conservative policies and the current president of The Heritage Foundation, said:

"Trade Promotion Authority should be considered on its own merits, and good conservatives can disagree on whether the current draft of TPA is appropriate. However, all conservatives should agree that it should not be tied to Trade Adjustment Assistance, an expensive and ineffective program."

Sign our petition and call House republicans and tell them: don’t be a McConnell. They must vote no on Obama’s trade bill, “an expensive and ineffective program.”

The TAA could prove to be disastrous to our economy.
