It's time for our political leaders in Washington – especially President Donald Trump, Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Leader Mitch McConnell – to do what they have repeatedly promised to do and protect the religious liberty rights of Americans, particularly those who believe in marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

All across America, people of faith have been targeted by the government for adverse action because of their traditional beliefs about marriage. Bakers, florists, photographers, inn keepers, small businesses, charities, schools, pastors, and churches, among many others, have been targeted for persecution. People have been sued, fined, and even jailed.  They've been forced to give up their ministries, been threatened with closure and loss of federal accreditation, and had their reputations ruined simply because they believe in the truth of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Not only do these attacks violate the religious liberty rights of people of faith, they are unconstitutional, wrong and unfair.

This persecution must end. Please sign our petition to President Trump, Speaker Ryan and Leader McConnell demanding that the White House and Congress act to protect religious liberty now!

The Petition

Please Protect Religious Freedom!

Dear President Trump, Speaker Ryan and Leader McConnell,

All across America, people of faith have been targeted by the government for adverse action because of their traditional beliefs about marriage. Bakers, florists, photographers, inn keepers, small businesses, charities, schools, pastors, and churches, among many others, have been targeted for persecution. People have been sued, fined, been forced to give up their ministries, been threatened with closure and loss of federal accreditation, and had their reputations ruined simply because they believe in the truth of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Not only do these attacks violate the religious liberty rights of people of faith, they are unconstitutional, wrong and unfair.

This persecution must end. As a candidate, President Trump repeatedly promised that he would protect the religious liberty rights of people of faith. The GOP platform pledges robust protections for people of faith. And people of faith responded overwhelmingly to these promises. Evangelicals, Catholics and Mormons form the backbone of the winning Republican coalition that delivered control of the White House and both houses of Congress to Republican control.

Despite the promises made to people of faith, virtually nothing has been done to protect the religious liberty rights of Americans to be free of governmental persecution because of their views about marriage, life, gender and similar issues. The failure to address these issues risks the collapse of the winning Republican coalition. Therefore, we respectfully demand the following:

  1. That President Trump execute a comprehensive Executive Order to protect the religious liberty rights of people of faith, including their right to live out their beliefs about marriage at work and in their daily lives.
  2. The Congress introduce and pass the First Amendment Defense Act to make the protections of an Executive Order permanent.

No American should be subjected to punishment, retaliation or persecution by the government because of their beliefs about marriage. President Trump and Congress must act now to ensure that the religious liberty rights of Americans are protected.
