The media narrative of whites lashing out against other groups as Donald Trump rose to become president-elect is the leading irritant stirring unrest across the U.S., former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum suggested Tuesday evening during a televised forum. Addressing the a spike in hate crimes since Trump was elected on Nov. 8, Santorum called out the media, including the two CNN commentators he was sitting with, for focusing on what he called whitelash. I think frankly, when people like Ana Navarro and Van Jones get up and talk about whitelash and how Donald Trump hates Muslims, and all of the negative things the press is spewing out about what Trump is going to do — that's got people more worked up than anything else, Santorum said.

One of the great lies of the 21st century is that republicanism and freedom are inevitable. Actually, representative government and individual liberty are the exception, not the rule, and individual liberty often dissipates in the name of the collective, along with truly representative government. And yet, it's that feeling of inevitability that allows us to attack the basic values that undergird republicanism and freedom. Because we never think that those institutions are under assault, we're unafraid of chipping away at their foundations in the name of partisan politics.

Lately, Hollywood has been in a bit of panic mode. Clearly the election of Donald Trump has thrown them through a loop because they left no room for even the slimmest possibility of Trump winning the presidency. Comedian Tina Fey is no different and let her apparent distress be known to David Letterman in an interview he conducted with her for The Hollywood Reporter. The former late-night host commiserated with the former Saturday Night Live comedian over their newly found realization of American’s “misogyny”--(rich, coming from the host who admitted to sleeping with his interns)--and how they would deal with the disappointing blow.
